What are you thirsting to learn and why? Whatever you are thirsting to learn DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ABOUT THIS CLASS. It can be about absolutely anything from skateboarding to horses to Monopoly to Zoology. You are to write a 3-paragraph descriptive essay on what it is you are dying to learn about maybe in college, in life, or in the final months of high school.
I want to learn both spanish and sign language. Since I was little I always wanted to be able to speak spanish and talk to all my spanish friends and be able to understand other people's conversations. I also always wanted to know sign language. I think it would be so cool to be able to talk to people and understand people without having to say a word. I also feel that people who speak sign language are their own community and form of people to be able to see the beauty of words without verbal communication. I believe that sign language is the true form of body language, using one's hands, body, and other symbols without vocal recognition of what they are saying. I am infatuated with the beauty of other languages.
The dictionary definition of sign language is; an integral part and an identifying feature of membership in the Deaf culture. Being so interested in sign language I look up a lot of information and back history on its origin and how it viewed to "Hearies" (or people who hear) and deaf people. The majorities of Deaf people (90%) are born to hearing parents and therefore do not acquire Sign Language as a mother tongue. They acquire Sign Language at school from peers. Sign Language is the first language of the majority of deaf children. Minorities (10%) of Deaf children are born to Deaf parents and these children acquire Sign Language as a mother tongue.
Having looked up so much information on the origins of sign language and how it affects people I felt it was only fair that since I wanted to learn spanish I should look up information on its origin as well. The language known today as Spanish is derived from a dialect of spoken Latin that evolved in the north-central part of the Iberian Peninsula after the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century. Over the past 1,000 years, the language expanded south to the Mediterranean Sea, and was later transferred to the Spanish colonial empire, most notably to the Americas. Today it is the official language of 21 countries and of numerous international organizations. It is also one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Throughout its history, Spanish has accepted loanwords, first from pre-Roman languages (including Basque, and Iberian), and later from Greek, from Germanic languages, from the neighboring Romance languages, from Arabic, from Native American languages, and from English. These two languages are very appealing to me and after high school I wish to take the necessary steps to learn before I have my children as I would like to pass the knowledge down to them.

4) Interpersonal - people smart - use of communication and interaction with others to learn
5) Intrapersonal - myself smart - use of self-reflection and self-understanding to learn
6) Spatial - picture smart - use of two- or three-dimensional pictures of images to learn
7) Musical - music smart - use of rhythm and other musical elements to learn
I feel that I learn best in multiple ways. I feel that I have aspects of a kinesthetic, interpersonal, and interpersonal learner. I believe, these traits make me well rounded, not only in my academics but also in my daily life. I like to learn and be active in a lot of different ways. As a kinesthetic learner I am able to be more hands on with my work and learn with my hands as well as retain information and apply it to my daily life. I like to learn things through trial and error and having people who do well in that particular field watch and make sure that I am doing what I need to do and doing it the correct way. Another perk of being a kinesthetic learner is that when it comes to learning new things or having to reach out of my comfort zone to get the job done I have no problem doing so.
Another way that I learn well is through interpersonal skills or communication with others. Not only does it help to build my personal interactions with my peers but it also helps to know other people's views on certain topics that allow me to defend my ideas or maybe to find better ones. Working in large or small groups sometimes allows me to take the role of the leader and make suer all the work that the group needs to get done is done. Working in a group also helps so that I do not have all the work upon my shoulders and I can focus on one aspect of the project and I can do a better job, contributing to the overall group assignment. I feel that working in groups is also beneficial to other students because they are able to form ideas that they might not have been able to do on their own.
Though I am an interpersonal learner I can also be classified as an interpersonal learner. Sometimes I feel that the best way for me to get my work done is to do it on my own. At times large groups can hinder the quality of the work, I could produce if I did the assignment on my own. Sometimes I feel that having to relay on other people to get the job done does not help me, and if they do not do their part then my grade suffers. In all these ways I am able to learn and retain information which has helped me develop a large vocabulary, helped me do good in my mathematics, and continue to achieve high grades in my classes.

Blog for this week 10/24/14
What was the first research assignment you remember ever having? Were you in elementary school, middle school, or high school? Exactly what grade were you in? What do you remember learning about the research process? What did you choose to write about or was a topic assigned to you? Did the teacher who gave you the assignment teach you about the research process? Or was it the school librarian? Or both? What sources do you remember using? Encyclopedias? Books? Articles? The Internet? Other sources? As you did with the last writing prompt, describe the research process you went through. Did you enjoy it? Hate it? Find it fun? Find it boring? Find it tedious?
The first research project I was ever assigned was in middle school, I believe it was the 6th grade. I had to pick three different colors and survey up to twenty people to determine what the most popular color was. I think the research project was more so I would be interactive with my classmates and maybe make friends to feel more comfortable within a new school, then just to determine what is the most popular color. Everyone had about three days to complete the project and chart their findings. However, I soon found that a lot of kids were not really going around asking people what their favorite color was. Most kids were just putting tally marks in each section for each color, making sure it added up to twenty so they would get credit for the assignment without truly doing any of the work.
I found it to be frustrating that these kids would take such an easy way out. I did not see the the problem in asking people what their favorite color was, I really did not find the assignment as unfair, just a little time consuming. I wondered if the teacher knew that almost no one really did the assignment, but just made random marks on their sheet, or if she actually cared, or if the assignment was just busy work. The people of the assignment was to research what color people liked the most, and there was no true research process except to survey people and find out what they thought. I was upset because I felt like our survey was not accurate because the kids in my class did not really ask people what their favorite color was.
Though I feel the research project was pointless, in-accurate and a complete waste of time the experience was surprisingly a lot of fun; and taught me a few things. The research project helped me come out of my shell and find the courage to meet and talk to new people, even if at first it was to just ask them what their favorite color was. This being said, this project taught me an even deeper lesson that stuck with me to this day. This project taught me that, in life people with always try to cheat, conieve, and find the easiest way out of things, which is not always a good thing.

Blog for this week 10/21/13
When was the last time you were assigned a research project? In what subject was it? What did you do? How did you feel about it? What did you think about it? Was it hard? Easy? Interesting? Boring? A burden? A joy? What was your project about? Did your teacher give you a choice of topics or was a topic assigned to you?
The last time I was assigned a research project was Junior year in my trigonometry class. We had to research a man or women that had a large impact on math and the way it is conducted as of present day. It was sort of difficult for me to pick someone I was interested in who was also someone I felt did something significant concerning math and what I do in my day to day math classes. I actually thought after the fact that the topic was rather interesting. Looking up people who had such a large impact on my mathematical skills and how I problem solve was rather interesting. Having this research project left me with a lot of questions that pushed me to do my own voluntary research which I feel make my project that much better.
I feel now, a year later, that this project helped expand my knowledge on math and truly appreciate where the information and procedures stem from. Math has always been a subject that I enjoy and researching the topic though it seemed tedious when it was first done I truly enjoyed the project. The teacher did not give me a choice, I had to research about a person who had a large influence in math, however I did have my choice of the person I wanted to choice and why I felt that they were influential to me.
The person that I had picked in my research essay was Pythagoras who created the Pythagorean Theorem of a^2 = b^2 = c^2, he was born in Samos, Greece and was considered by many to be the father of numbers because of his belief that everything (even the gods and demons) could be explained through numbers. He lead a religious movement in which his followers were called Pythagoreans. The Pythagorean Theorem is always something that I remembered from math and was able to use rather easily once I learned it so finding information about the man who literally gave birth to the idea truly stuck with me. This research project truly impacted my life and my view of math overall.
